Will Miers' donations to Democrats Gore and Bentsen hurt her nomination?

Tom Curry of MSNBC shares some interesting data on Supreme Court Nominee Miers' political past that does surprise me. Asking, "Is Miers a 'safe' choice?" Curry notes that her views on abortion and gay rights are not known,  but her political donation record is public. And look who she's supported:

"Miers has donated thousands of dollars to Republican candidates during the past 15 years, including to President Bush's campaigns. But in 1988, Miers contributed $1,000 to Al Gore's campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. She also donated to the Democratic National Committee in 1988 and to Sen. Lloyd Bentsen, a Texas Democrat, in 1987, according to the Federal Election Commission and the Center for Responsive Politics. "

Wonkette has a hilarious take on Miers' ability to swing both ways -- but is still not-so-wild about Harriet.

Update: ""I'm confident that she has a conservative judicial philosophy that you'd be comfortable with, Rush." Ann Althouse blogs the transcript of a conversation between Vice President Dick Cheney and Rush Limbaugh.
