More Merger Mania
As Wired GC writes here, this past Monday brought news of a merger between Thelen Reid and Brown Raysman as described in this press release. The Thelen/Brown merger comes on the heels of the Dewey Ballentine-Orrick marriage and just prior to this just announced deal between Connecticut firm Day Berry and New Jersey-based Pitney Hardin. And that's not the end of the merger madness; today's Chicago Tribune carries news that Philadelphia firm Drinker Biddle is continuing to move forward with merger plans with Chicago-based Gardner Carton, notwithstanding ongoing legal troubles linked to a partner at the Chicago firm.
Wired GC isn't as enthused about the mergers as the participants appear to be. He notes that the press releases like that issued by Thelen, touting the merger boast about partner profits, while speaking little of value to clients. And that's Wired GC's concern: How will these mergers benefit clients? What do you think?
