An Oral History of Antitrust Law
This is a great idea, one I hope others will emulate: The American Bar Association Section of Antitrust Law is documenting the history of antitrust law through videotaped interviews with prominent figures in the field. It is now posting the first of these interviews on the Web page of its Oral History Task Force. Here is how the Web site explains the project:
"The Oral History Task Force was established to permanently document the perspectives and memories of those who have figured prominently in the development of US antitrust law. These notable individuals include former high-level government officials, distinguished antitrust practitioners, and those who have contributed so richly to the growth and development of the Section of Antitrust Law."
In many cases, the person conducting the interview is as notable as the subject. Available so far are interviews with:
- Michael F. Brockmeyer, former chair of the National Association of Attorneys General Multi-State Task Force. He is interviewed by Federal Trade Commissioner J. Thomas Rosch.
- Terry Calvani, former chairman of the Federal Trade Commission and FTC commissioner from 1983 to 1990. He is interviewed by Randolph W. Tritell, the FTC's assistant director for international antitrust.
- D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals Chief Judge Douglas H. Ginsburg. He is interviewed by Robert E. Bloch of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP.
- Thomas E. Kauper, former assistant attorney general for antitrust in the U.S. Department of Justice. He is interviewed by Donald C. Klawiter of Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP.
- Robert M. Langer, former chair of the National Association of Attorneys General Multi-State Task Force. He is interviewed by Laurel Price of the FTC.
- Thomas B. Leary, former FTC commissioner. He is interviewed by Thomas Klotz of the FTC.
- Janet L. McDavid, former chair of the ABA Section of Antitrust Law.
- Harry M. Reasoner, former chair of the ABA Section of Antitrust Law. He is interviewed by Allan Van Fleet of Greenberg Traurig.
- Edwin M. Zimmerman, former assistant attorney general for antitrust in the U.S. Department of Justice.
