Folo: Global Counsel Awards Announced
We posted here last month about the short list of finalists for the 2008 Global Counsel Awards, an international competition to honor outstanding in-house lawyers and legal departments. Now the winners have been named, with the award for general counsel of the year going to James B. Buda of Caterpillar Inc. GC honored for their work in particular fields of law were:
- Competition: Robert G. van Schoonenberg, Avery Dennison Corporation
- Employment: Alan Wilmit, Goldman Sachs & Co.
- General commercial: Dominique Golsong, Goodyear Dunlop Tires Europe BV
- Intellectual property: Judy Jarecki-Black, Merial Limited
- Litigation: David Onorato, Bank of America
- Regulatory (financial services): David Allgood, RBC Financial Group
- Regulatory (non-financial): Thomas Newton Bolling, Continental Airlines
Several in-house departments won awards as well, including Eli Lilly and Co. for best training program and Wyeth for its pro bono work. The awards are given out by the International Law Office, a legal newsletter publisher based in London, in cooperation with the Association of Corporate Counsel. Nominations for the awards come from corporate counsel and law firm partners.
