Supernova: The Lawyer Connection

Two weeks ago, Legal Blog Watch mentioned that a band formed in 1989 as Supernova had filed a federal court lawsuit alleging trademark infringement and other claims against the producers of the rock-reality show Rock Star: Supernova. Now Peter Lattman at Law Blog picks up this lightbulb-inducing footnote to the story: The drummer for the original Supernova, Dave Collins, is now a corporate attorney in Irvine, Calif., at Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold, where his practice includes IP law.

Collins tells Lattman that his band broke up in 1999, in part so that he could finish law school, but is now back playing together.

Note to Tommy Lee, Gilby Clark and Jason Newsted: Perhaps you should consider a reconstituted name that identifies your past rock-star achievements, say Motley Nova, Guns N' Nova or SuperMetallic. Let me know if you'd like me to handle the paperwork.
