The Most GLBT-Friendly Law Firms

Human Rights Campaign has released its 2008 Corporate Equality Index, its annual ranking of how equitably companies treat their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender employees and customers, and the number of law firms that achieved perfect scores more than doubled from last year. Firms that achieved a perfect index score of 100 will be included later this year in HRC's annual listing of the Best Places to Work for GLBT Equality.

In the 2007 ranking, a dozen law firms made the grade with perfect scores. This year, 30 firms were given ratings of 100. (Scroll to page 48 of the index to see the law-firm listings; they are not yet on the Web.) All 12 of last-year's top-scoring firms remain on the list -- Alston & Bird, Arnold & Porter, Dorsey & Whitney, Faegre & Benson, Heller Ehrman, Jenner & Block, McDermott Will & Emery, Morrison & Foerster, Nixon Peabody, Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and Powell Goldstein -- with another 18 firms joining them.

HRC compiles these ratings based on surveys the firms complete coupled with independent research. If you are wondering why no smaller law firms made the list, it is because the HRC index looks only at Am Law 200 law firms.
