Law Firm Reigns as Tops in Trivia

Many law firms have earned recognition for having the Best Lawyers or for having Super Lawyers, but the Buffalo, N.Y., firm Connors & Vilardo may be the only one that can lay claim to having the smartest lawyers -- and paralegals. This week, a team of trivia buffs from the firm beat out all challengers at a charity trivia contest to win the title of "Buffalo's Smartest Company" for the second year running. Partner James W. Grable Jr. credited paralegals Curtis J. Ahrens Jr. and Susan B. Fischer as having "made all the difference for us" in this year's competition, according to The Buffalo News. "Indeed, Fischer knew without hesitation that a short-term investor or day trader who buys pre-IPO shares is called a flipper, and not a sweeper or a swisher, among the other multiple choices that were offered as possible answers."

The newspaper described the contest as "a nail-biter until the bitter end." The 22 teams that participated had to answer three rounds of questions with 15 questions per round and only 20 seconds allowed for each question. The second-place finisher was also a law firm, Buffalo's Cohen & Lombardo. Proceeds from the event go to help disabled and economically disadvantaged youth attend summer camp.
